Kathleen (KATHY) Shirley:  

I went to Our Lady of Mercy School in Park Ridge, NJ and then Immaculate Heart Academy in Washington Township, NJ. In 1969 my Dad was transferred to Houston,Texas where I went to Westchester high school and graduated in 1971. I went on to SF Austin University in Texas where I majored in both Math and Spanish and graduated in 1974(early). My friends at SFA were mainly my Alpha Chi Omega Sorority sisters and dorm mates. I began teaching mathematics at Spring Woods SR. High (Houston, Texas) in 1975. I later earned my Masters Degree in Mathematics/Education from University of Houston and went on to teach at the University of Houston College of Technology (math again). I also did some postdoctoral Mathematics work at University of Texas for a while. I guess I liked going to school?? I decided I needed a change from academia and joined the business world in 1981 in Houston. I worked for Brown and Root and Control Data Corporation. I moved to Massachusetts in 1986 just for a change of scenery and excellent business opportunities. I stayed in the business world until I "retired" in 1999. In business I was in the software and consulting businesses as a programmer first then sales, marketing,and consulting. I traveled frequently on these jobs..typically 75-100k domestic miles a year!
